Baking Soda Cleaning

The use of baking soda as a cleaning medium was created during the Statue of Liberty Renovation from 1984 - 1986. The statue was scheduled to be re-dedicated on July 4, 1986. They needed a cleaning process that would quickly clean the interior of the statue while not damaging the metal structure. To fill this need the baking soda blasting equipment and process were developed. Since this time, new and innovative uses for this cleaning process continue to evolve. Utilizing custom equipment and specially formulated baking soda it is able to clean virtually any surface without damaging it.

Key Features of Baking Soda

  • Sharp enough to cut through multiple layers of paint
  • Friable – fractures into smaller pieces on contact thusly softening the impact on the substrate
  • Benign pH of 8.2 so it is environmentally friendly
  • Water-soluble thusly further lowering the environmental impact
  • FDA/USDA approved
  • Does not generate heat so it can’t warp metal
  • Does not flash rust
  • Safe to use around glass, rubber, and chrome

With more and more applications being found all the time the uses for it are almost innumerable. With such a wide array of applications baking soda is a popular media selection for a majority of our customers.
